A winter storm can wreak havoc on Atlanta traffic. It’s been more than 24 hours since Winter Storm Leon slammed into the Atlanta area and thousands of drivers are still stranded in their cars. Government officials expect that many of them will be stuck for a second night.
It is always best to avoid driving in the snow. You might have grown up on the Canadian border and driven in a blizzard us Southerners can only imagine, but the City of Atlanta does not have the resources to deal with large amounts of snow. If you go out in the snow, you need to be prepared.
If there’s snow in the forecast, carry a snow brush and extra food, water, and clothing. Make sure your cell phone is charged and your gas tank is full. You should also download Kaufman Law’s free car accident app. The app is available for both iPhone and Android. The app will help you to locate the nearest hospital or call for police assistance. It will also help guide you through the steps you need to take after an accident. There’s a helpful section in which you can record accident data.
If you get stuck, it will take time for help to arrive. Stay in your car and bundle up in your extra clothing. Try to conserve gas, food and water. Run your engine just enough to keep your car warm until help arrives.
Kaufman Law is here throughout the storm and every day of the year. If you have a question about a car accident injury or an insurance company offer, feel free to give our office a call. There is no charge for the consultation.
