As most victims of dog attacks know, a seemingly innocent moment can turn life threatening in a single instant. Dogs typically attack when they feel cornered. Unfortunately, an innocent bystander may only discover that the animal is feeling threatened when the dog attacks. Injuries following a dog bite may be severe as a result. Sadly, injuries from a dog attack can extend beyond the actual bite.
Two Georgia Teenagers Tragically Killed While Running Away From Dogs
In mid-April, two Georgia teenagers were killed, not as a result of a dog bite, but instead as a result of running from a potential attack. In the first attack, 17-year-old Davon Jiggetts tragically passed away in Riverdale. Davon was stepping off of a bus at approximately 1:00 a.m. on Saturday, April 12th, when a dog running loose charged him. Davon had just returned from a visit to his girlfriend’s house. In order to escape the dog, Davon ran into oncoming traffic. He was killed when a car struck him on Old National Highway. His father, Robert Marrow, released a statement calling into question why anyone would let a dangerous dog run loose.
In the second fatal accident, Demonta Collins passed away on Thursday, April 10th, as he tried to run from an attacking dog. Demonta was just 13-years-old at the time. He ran into traffic on Milledgeville Road in order to try and escape from the dog. After being struck by a 2001 Acura, Demonta was transported to the hospital where he was later pronounced dead. The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office responded to the scene of the accident.
The attorneys at Kaufman Law express their deepest condolences to the families of Davon Jiggetts and Demonta Collins.
