Keep Your Independence Day Safe

July 4th Safety

Fourth of July is right around the corner and most people are planning their get togethers. Whether you are hosting a backyard party, heading to the lake, enjoying a beach trip, or celebrating indoors, it’s important to know and follow a few safety tips to keep the day the best it can be.

  • Drink Responsibly

On big holidays like July 4th, alcohol is usually involved. If you are attending a gathering where you know you will be drinking, make transportation plans beforehand, so that you get home safely. You should also watch your intake amount. Consuming alcohol all day long can put you at great risk of alcohol poisoning and other illnesses.

  • Stay Hydrated

If you are spending your holiday outdoors, it is extremely important that you keep yourself hydrated. Drinking plenty of water will keep you from the dangers of heat exhaustion.

  • Practice Water Safety

If you’re spending your day near the water, whether that be the ocean, a lake, or a pool, it is necessary to practice water safety. Make sure that children are supervised at all times and are wearing correct flotation devices. For more ways to keep children safe this summer, read here.

  • Wear Sunscreen

If you are spending any time outside during July 4th, or any summer day, make sure to wear your SPF to protect your skin. We’ve done the research for you and came up with the best adult and children sunscreens to help keep your skin healthy this season.

  • Be Cautious With Fireworks

Fireworks are a huge attraction on July 4th, but you should use them with caution. If you decide to buy your own fireworks, make sure they are legal. When using fireworks, we suggest following these safety tips. Children should never operate fireworks and should always be supervised when using sparklers.

  • Maintain Your Food

July 4th is known for large cookouts and backyard barbecues, so it is important to practice food safety. It is easy to get distracted with all of the excitement and this tip may slip your mind. When preparing or serving food for your guests, do so properly to prevent any food borne illnesses. When everyone is finished eating, make sure that the food is stored correctly to prevent bacteria from taking over. For more food safety tips, read here.

Following these few safety tips can help ensure that your holiday remains fun and goes smoothly!
