Tracy Morgan Continues to Battle Brain Injury

One June 7th, 2014, actor Tracy Morgan was a passenger on a bus that was rear-ended by a tractor-trailer truck. The truck was being driven by a driver who had been awake for 24 hours prior to the accident. The driver was reportedly traveling at over 20 miles per hour above the speed limit at the time of the crash. Another passenger on the bus, James McNair, was killed, and Morgan and several other companions were left injured.

Brain Injuries Can Take an Extensive Amount of Time for Recovery

Tragically, six months later the actor is still battling to recover from his brain injury. Doctors are reporting that they still do not know whether he will be able to fully recover because his brain injury was so severe. In addition to the brain injury, Morgan suffered from the following:

  • Broken nose
  • Broken leg
  • Broken ribs

It is the severe brain injury, however, that has left the most damaging and lasting impact on Morgan’s overall well-being. Morgan’s injury highlights the scary fact that brain injuries can take an extremely long time to recover from. In addition, it can be a year or longer before victims and their families will even fully understand the extent of the injury and the chances for recovery. Victims may face ongoing medical treatments and the need for physical and occupational rehabilitation. Some victims may need to relearn such basic tasks as walking, talking, thinking, or even eating.

Morgan spent many weeks in the hospital after the crash that injured him. The team at Kaufman Law expresses its hope for a full recovery for the beloved comedian.
